Hello, I am Elena, a 24 years old italian girl, from Arezzo 80 km south from Florence. I enjoy explore technology to understand how it can fullfill emotional and practical human needs. Through Interaction Design discipline I'm able to make good use of my hybrid educational background between engineering and sociology, and first of all, I get to be creative and build stuff.
I think that everything started with the sci-fi comics I use to read as a kid: from there come my fascination about what the future would be and what technology would enable us to do. I started off with Telecommunications Engineering but I soon realized that creativity and humans were not taken into account in the way I wanted. Then I moved to study Engineering of Media at Turin Polytechnic: an hybrid between informatics, electronic engineering and science of communication. It gave me an overview on telephone, cinema, television, internet from both a technical and a sociological perspective.
Then I started working, first doing an internship at TODO and then freelancing for Experientia two Interaction Design studios.
Thanks to those people I worked with I realized that Interaction Design could have being the glue to put together technical skills like programming and electronics, with sociological anlysis, creativity and innovation.
In September of 2009 I moved to Denmark to study at CIID, the Copenhagen Institute of Interaction Design. After one year spent pushing the boundaries of my comfort zone, exploring different disciplines through peer to peer learning, I am now working as a consultant at CIID/consultancy.
